Members of the Lynsted with Kingsdown Society met on Friday 26th October in the Methodist Church for their AGM, followed by a talk by Richard Moyse on ‘The Future for Kent’s Wildlife’.
The chairman reported on a successful year with increased membership and thanked members of the committee and all who had helped with the planning and running of a varied programme of events.
Bob Baxter was re-elected as chairman. The remaining members of the Committee were willing to continue and as the nominations were not contested they were elected. It was agreed that Subscription rates should stay the same at £12.00 for a single person and £20.00 for a couple.
Members had enjoyed a variety of talks and outings during the past year, including the on-going projects of recording the inscriptions on the gravestones in the churchyard and the laying of the Millennium Hedge in Cambridge Lane.
Next year should see a special publication celebrating the first five years of the Society’s life. Activities already planned include talks on ‘Kent Churches’ in January followed by ‘Gems of Kent’ in April.
The Chairman emphasised the important role that the internet had played in the Society’s activities, thanks to Nigel Heriz-Smith, who had built an informative website in which interest continues to grow.
The website advertises Society events and visitors can sign up to receive a topical newsletter.
