Winter Projects: Planting a shrub or tree in your garden? You could choose a berry-bearing variety that supports birds throughout future winters - Read the RSPB’s views on which plants to choose.
NEW There have outbreaks of Salmonella causing many flocking songbirds to die (sparrows have been hard hit). RSPB remind us all to clean around the bird feeders to make sure seed and faeces don’t mix!

31 January: A Village Remembered - a look at changing village life in West Kent since the 1880s”. The speaker - A. M Parkin.

14th March: Bridges of Kent. Tony Norfolk will give this Society talk in the Greenstreet Methodist Church. Admission £3 (£1 members)

27th April: Jane Austen’s Kent - The Society presented Anthea Bryant who spoke about the links between this famous author and places of Kent.

5th May: Recording Gravestones: Margaret Burns led a workshop on how to transcribe, decypher and record Memorials & Inscriptions. Read more about this event and plans for setting up a group of enthusiasts to develop a full historic record or our important, relatively intact, graveyard and extension. Hints on how to go about it.

3rd June: Conducted Farm Walk: Moved from 23rd May due to adverse weather that day: Sunday Afternoon: A gentle farm walk starting from the parking area near “Foxhunters”, Kingsdown Road to learn about the many conservation ideas being promoted by Neil Anderson. Then “Ludgate”, Ludgate Lane, to hear about Operation Bumble Bee conservation initiative. 

15th September: Society Member’s Event: Historic Bus Ride to Rye: A very popular event in David Powell’s restored double decker Titan Class Bus. Departed Lynsted at 9.00 am; returned at 1730pm. Travelling to Rye via Tenterden with an optional train ride from Tenterden to Northiam (collected again by the vintage bus) on the East Sussex Steam Railway

9th October: Hedge laying (Practical demonstration)Expert hedge-layer John Flower will be coming to give a demonstration of the rural craft of ‘laying’ a hedge.  Everyone is welcome to come and watch, with the possibility of ‘having a go’. REPORT and Gallery.

26th October: AGM and Guest Speaker on Wildlife in the Thames GatewayThe AGM was followed by Richard Moyse, Senior Conservation Officer for Kent Wildlife Trust who gave a fascinating presentation on “The Future of Kent Wildlife in the Thames Gateway”. REPORT
