Welcome to the Lynsted with Kingsdown Society Local Heritage Project.
Capturing the heritage of our Parish
REPORT: Society Heritage Open Day in Lynsted Church 11th June 10.30 a.m. to 3.00 pm
We had a steady stream of people join us and made some important and some surprising discoveries with the help of our visitors. We also projected a 25 minute photo-animation using several images from last year’s Heritage Day - this proved quite popular throughout the day, accompanied by some delicious cakes with tea and coffee.
In particular, we focused on two important themes in the history of the Parish:
- How the Parish Celebrated Royal Occasions and
- Our Parish in Wartime
Can you help us with your memories and material on coronations, jubilees, royal weddings or royal births? (Click here to see some photographs of the 1953 Coronation Fete and Pageant at Aymers or the Street Party in Batteries Close, where we are looking for names.) Or material on what was happening in the Parish during any wartime period, or stories of what you or family members were doing?
We aim to put together a booklet/DVD to coincide with Lynsted’s Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration in 2012, and a longer term project to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the end of World War 2 in 2015.
There is a report in the Parish newsletter and via this link.
Old Parish Newsletters (from 1977) are gradually being added to our Archive.
