The Lyn Valley

The Lyn Valley is one of the many areas of unspoilt countryside that can be found throughout Kent.

A “nailbourne” (chalkland river  that spends most of its life underground) runs along its length and surfaces after heavy rainfall as standing water by Bumpit.  This valley is a haven of peace and quiet that stretches from Aymers to the south to London Road and onwards to the sea.

The communities of this Parish attach particular importance to the preservation of this unspoilt tract of land just as they are protective of the few woodland areas in the Parish - Toll Wood abuts the Lyn Valley, while ancient Mintching Wood spreads across Kingsdown.

This view, looking south from Tickham towards Erriotwood, is delightfully unspoiled. The fields are larger in this part of the Parish, but evidence of the previous fruit-growning persists in the retention of windbreaks alongside the hedgerows.
