The Grange, Greenstreet
An impressive, Grade II listed, 18th Century house, set back from Greenstreet Hill. It was once the Vicarage for Teynham but is now a house in private ownership as No. 18, London Road, Lynsted.
What follows is structured around material extracted by Bob Baxter (9th February 2006) from a set of conveyance indentures and other documents kindly loaned by the then occupier, Mr D Nicholson, for our archives. Nigel Heriz-Smith added contextual information from Census records and newspaper and other references as they emerged.

| GREENSTREET GOLDEN WEDDING. On Sunday last Mr and Mrs George Alfred Filmer, of the Grange, Greenstreet, celebrated their golden wedding. The celebration took the form of a quiet family gathering, at which all the children and sons and daughters-in-law, and a number of the grand children were present. Mr. Filmer, who was born at Faversham 77 years ago, came to Greenstreet quite early in life, and on September 20th, 1864, was married at Lynsted Church, to Emma Sarah Vallance, daughter of the late Mr. William Vallance, then of Bogle Farm, Lynsted. During all the intervening years Mr. and Mrs. Filmer have lived at Greenstreet and eleven children have been born to them, of whom eight are surviving – four sons and four daughters. At the family gathering on Sunday a fine solid silver centrepiece, combining a flower and fruit stand, was presented by the children to the father and mother. Also in commemoration of the event, three daughters – Mrs J R Millen, Mrs. Wildish, and Miss E. Filmer are presenting to Lynsted Church a splendid purple altar frontal cloth richly embroidered, which will be used during the seasons of Advent and Lent. The cloth is being worked by Miss Filmer. Both Mr and Mrs Filmer, despite their age, are enjoying wonderfully good health, and it is hoped that they may be spared to one another for many years yet. |

House. C18. Painted brick and plain tiled roof. Rectangular plan with later wings added and recessed to left, slightly projecting to right. Two storeys on plinth with parapet and stacks to left and to right. Central block with regular fenestration of 3 glazing bar sashes on first floor with basket arched heads and moulded and panelled tympana. The windows to left and right are set in recesses in which are also the 2 ground floor windows with moulded panels between ground and first floor windows. Two storey extension to right with 1 wood casement to each floor, 1 storey extension left with 1 glazing bar sash. Central door of 4 panels with rectangular fanlight in Doric columned porch.
